Ingredients

1 cup browned butter (cooled to solid), 1 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs + 1 yolk, 2 tsp vanilla extract
2 and 1/4 cups flour, 1 tsp baking soda, 3/4 tsp salt
1 and 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1/2 cup dark chocolate chunks, flaky sea salt

Equipment

  • 1 9x13-inch baking pan
  • 1 parchment paper
  • 1 medium saucepan for browning butter
  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 hand mixer or stand mixer
  • 1 rubber spatula
  • 1 offset spatula

Method

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line 9x13-inch pan with parchment, leaving overhang on long sides.
Brown butter until deep golden and nutty. Pour into bowl with all brown bits. Cool until solid but soft, 15 to 20 minutes.
Beat brown butter and sugars 2 minutes. Add eggs and yolk one at a time. Add vanilla. Beat until smooth.
Mix in flour, baking soda, and salt on low until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
Press dough evenly into pan to the edges and corners. Scatter dark chocolate chunks on top and press in gently. Finish with flaky sea salt.
Bake 22 to 25 minutes until edges are golden and center has a slight sheen. Cool in pan 45 minutes minimum before lifting out and cutting.
