Ingredients
  

1 cup creamy peanut butter
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar, plus 1/4 cup for rolling
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt

Equipment

  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 an electric hand or stand mixer
  • 1 a baking sheet lined with parchment paper
  • 1 standard dinner fork for the signature crisscross pattern.

Method
 

Cream butter and sugars until fluffy.
    Mix in peanut butter, egg, and vanilla.
      Fold in dry ingredients until just combined.
        Roll into balls, coat in sugar.
          Press with a fork in a crisscross pattern.
            Bake at 350°F for 10 to 12 minutes.
              Cool on the sheet 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack.
